Okay, these (un)willing volunteers are actually my own kids, but I wanted to illustrate some basic kid portrait tips. My kids looked rather nice in their church clothes, so I complimented them on how nice they looked and asked them if they wanted their picture taken.
Ariel quickly volunteered:
Next came Charis. This is what you get when you tell your kid to smile:
Charis’ reply to me prompting her to smile was, “But, I am smiling!”
So, with Nathanael’s turn I tried a different approach. I decided to say “Don’t smile! I don’t want to see you smile! No smiles! Don’t you even think about smiling!” and this is what I got:
